Hepu Seagrass Demonstration Site

Introduction
The seagrass working group of China headed by SCSIO has finished the investigation of the seagrass beds in South China since 2002. They have gained a clear idea of the geographic distribution, species, biomass, productivity, biodiversity characteristics of seagrasses and the threats suffered by seagrasses, and have established its GIS,

analyzed the causal chain of threats suffered by seagrasses, evaluated their economic values and compiled the National Report on Seagrasses and Seagrass Protection Action Plan. Based on the above conditions, The seagrass beda at Hepu in Guangxi, Liusha Bay in Guangdong, Xincun and Li'an in Hainan,

¡¡respectively were recommended as candidates of the Demonstration Site. Finally, Hepu seagrass bed in Guangxi has become one of the three Demonstration Sites selected from more than 30 candidates recommended by seven countries in this region concerned (later the fourth Demonstration Site was added).The Coordination Bureau of South China Sea Project approved the working plan of Hepu Seagrass Demonstration Site in April 2005. Dr. Huang Xiaoping (chief scientist for seagrass research subject in South China Sea Project) and the director of the Project Coordination Bureau signed a memorandum about Hepu Seagrass Demonstration Site, thus Hepu Seagrass Demonstration Site become the first Demonstration Site with formal agreement.¡¡

Location of Hepu Seagrass Demonstration Site
Hepu Segrass Demonstrion Area is located at Hepu County of Beihai City, Guangxi Province. It is easterly from Yingluo gulf to westerly sea area of Yingpan town, and across Shatian town. Its concrete location is at 21¡ã18.0¡ä-21¡ã42.0¡äN, 109¡ã36.0¡ä-109¡ã48.0¡äE.
